About Maple Brook Farm and its owner!
Old Maple Brook Farm!
It all started back in 2008 when our 1st horse came to a small yard in the hill of Derbyshire. Beauty was our 1st thoroughbred and was the one who started it all!
Well for breyers that is. I have been collecting Schleich models since 2000, 8 years before i got beauty! I had always made 'stables' and things for my schleich but never really knew of the model horse hobby and world until beauty arrived after being purchased at Sherwood forest Centre parcs, which is where the yard also got its name. The location of our cabin was in the maple section and there was a small brook at the end of our garden. Maple Brook Farm. After that horses were bought on special occasions like birthdays and Christmas's by my husband who was the only one who supported my new found hobby. After a couple of years and horses coming and going i had a gradually growing herd.
My 1st peter stone was a OF gingersnap Tennessee walker horse but his advert was false. It stated he was a mint model. I was pretty upset when i got him and he was a body. After a lot of looking around i managed to find a painter who had excellent work and cheap prices. He was sent off to her and i waited. Near half a year later (the customizer was going through a rough patch at the time) and Nevada came home to be my 1st Peter stone model. Then on my 22nd birthday someone special galloped on to our yard (once again a gift from my fabulous husband) Loki arrived. A gorgeous grey Egyptian Arabian officially sold as Utterley Shaheen, a UK special.
At last count i had over 200 hundred horses combined of a mix of Breyer, peter stone, Eqourum, schleich and collectA. And of course my herd is still ever growing!
Quite a few of my models have been shown via online photo shows. Something i enjoy greatly. I have never had the chance to show my own models live due to my busy life but hopefully next year i may get the chance to attend some live shows. A couple of my models have been proxy show live for me but not many. A couple i bought with their placings. In due time i may host my own photo shows and in the near future i plan of attempting to race some of my models (For more information on racing models check the link page)
Real horse wise i do not have my own and i never have but i have worked on various types of yards including jumping and riding schools. I also have a first diploma in horse management and a national diploma in equine science. After finishing college 5 years ago i have been on the hunt for horses to ride but to no avail. I eventually gave up. At the start of last year i started to search again and you can imagine my surprise when i found someone who wanted someone to help with not one but 3 horses! Ive not been helping out for over 3 years with her retired arabian, sultan, 8 year old sports horse, skye and 4 years old welsh section D, prince who is currently being backed ready for me to ride when i come back off my holidays at the end of july. Unfortunately, Wee sultan had to be put down October 2016 and Prince was sold on.
February 2017 I fell pregnant! October 15th 2017 I gave birth to our little girl, for the 1st couple of weeks of motherhood model horses took a step back but now that we are both established and used to each other, I can spend some more times with my models and have even started building a small schleich stable block and got back into writing photostories, using mainly my traditional models, some thing which i enjoy thoroughly!
